This beautiful lavender-colored crab was caught off the coast of Russia in the Bering Sea and subsequently shipped with a batch of red crabs to Hokkaido, Japan. Scientists are not sure what caused its brilliant-lavender hue but believe it is either a result of a unique diet component or some sort of mutation. Meanwhile, the online community is brimming with theories including an assumption that the peculiar mutant color is a result of radiation contamination from the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan.
